Religious Tourism

 Religious tourism, which in recent years has boomed in Greece is richly served in Grevena.

A few kilometers before Deskati, is the famous Monastery of Zavordas, built between 1534 and1544 by Saint Nicanor and beside the rushing waters of the Aliakmona river.

The Holy Monastery of the Assumption Tornikioi built around 1200 is waiting to be relocated because of the construction of dams in the area. The Monastery Immaculate Virgin Bounasia that was built in 1348, and has an impressive temple, beautifully painted dome and carved reliefs on the doors, this combined with the rugged landscape make a visit here a memorable one!

Across the county, the church of the Holy Virgin in Samarina with it's wooden dome, enchants thousands of people in August. At the entrance of Valia Kirna (Devils valley) stands the church of the Transfiguration and St. Paraskevi.

A religious monument for the county is the Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary or Spilotissa founded in 1643. The chancel, doors and windows of the church are splendid examples of 17th century woodwork. Dozens more stone temples and churches adorn every corner of the county and have open doors to worshipers.
